Meet our new Head Coach, Anthony Spiteri

The long awaited interview with our new coach, Anthony Spiteri is finally here. We met up with Spiteri before our last friendly against Mosta Vikings to get to know him, as well as his plans for Naxxar Victorians.

Spiteri joined Naxxar Victorians last May, following the club’s announcement that we will be playing in MAFA for the coming season. We asked him about the squad he found at the start. “I found a group of dedicated boys, maybe not as fit and physically-trained, but we can work on that,” Spiteri said. He added that technique-wise, the squad is on the right track. He is confident that all of this will improve as the players get to know each other better.

Despite the leap from 8 to 11 players on the pitch being clearly very different, especially in terms of substitutions, the coach said that, “it being my first experience here, I really can’t say if the switch to MAFA is beneficial for the team or not”. At the same time, Spiteri was hopeful that the team would do well. “We have a great squad. With enough dedication, which many already have, we should be able to enjoy playing football this coming season.”

The coach’s target for this season is a top-four finish in the MAFA League. He said, “I know it’s hard because it is our first attempt after all, but I would love to achieve it immediately!”

Apart from being our coach, Anthony Spiteri (43) is also a Naxxar local, and so the club holds a special place in his heart

From all of us at NaxxarVictorians.com, we wish Anthony Spiteri every success possible at our club
Goodluck Coach!
