Camilleri for Victorians coach until end of season

Former player, Luke Camilleri (known by most as Barney) has taken over the reigns at Naxxar Victorians for the rest of the 2017/18 season. Following the win versus Mosta Vikings, the team has decided to give our new coach the announcement he deserves.

The team played very well and deserved all three points! Still a long way to go but the future looks bright for our lads!

Camilleri had started out as a midfielder back in the beginning of the season but has shown the ability to lead the team even from on the bench. After the departure of Anthony Spiteri from the Victorians’ coaching staff, the team put club president, Karl Borg in charge in order to fill this gap which had formed in the team’s leadership.

After an injury stopped him to playing any longer, both Camilleri and the committee saw that it was time for him to step up to the role and take over, effective from the preparation weeks before the North Derby. Of course, the match against Mosta Vikings was a huge pressure on his trial as coach. However, it was his organisation and tactical success which has earned the Victorians their first three points, thus securing him into the role.

“The team played very well and deserved all three points! Still a long way to go but the future looks bright for our lads”, said Camilleri when asked about the Mosta game. He added that, “We should tackle each game at a time and try to achieve the best results possible through hard work and teamwork on and off the pitch. We have a great bunch of athletes to work with and it is my pleasure to give them the best possible training to make that happen!”

His next test is the away match versus Mqabba Albions which like Mosta had drawn with the boys last meeting. Camilleri hopes to build on the success of the derby by attempting to win this one too.

Luke Camilleri was born and bred supporting Naxxar in all its elements. This dedication to the locality will prove instrumental towards the team’s fighting spirit. From the Naxxar Victorians and naxxarvictorians.com team, we wish him all the best with the hope of reaching the team’s target by the end of the season.
